The Art of Choreography: Edouard Kouchanerev
For each artistic person, it is normal to be constantly in the creative state. Still working on one work of art, he is already thinking ahead of new thoughts and ideas. However, the journey to reality is different for each artist. For instance, Edouard Kouchanarev is always inspired to create new children’s ballet performances that are not alike to any other.

According to Edouard’s words, the foundation for all of his performances is the right and thoughtful selection of music. This is a rather long process which is the key to success. The music has to be bright and expressive but at the same time it has to be vivid and clear to the understanding of children. The next step is creating an interesting story line for the performance which includes not only the plot but also brilliant decorations and costumes.
The next step of staging a performance is extremely time-consuming. The choreographer has to match each part of the plot, and culmination of the story, to an appropriate music phrase. Throughout this process there is a lot of doubting, different visions and approaches. By the end, they have to be narrowed down to one ideal solution which will be professional, breath-taking, and at the same time age-appropriate for the children.
The most important purpose in the creation of a children’s ballet is to stir an interest of the young generation to this genre of art. That is why a kid’s performance demands constant growth and development, playful moments, and unexpected turns which stimulate the interest of children to the dance.
The most imperative principle of a children’s performance is the recognition of characters and correct associations. Together with the music, it creates an unforgettable experience for the youth.
Another important part of staging a ballet is picking the right cast to play the roles. Here you cannot be mistaken. The person playing the role has to correspond to the character they play and be able to bring the vision of that character to the audience.
The production of a new performance is not a routine, but is rather a realistic game. Even knowing all the rules of the game you cannot predict the final result. And only the belief and dedication to the ideas, inspiration and enthusiasm of the choreographer and the whole cast, help to bring the artistic performance to life.
